Living with MS

Ron and Kelly

As with all new things, when one is diagnosed with MS, you find yourself on an unexpected new journey.  For whatever reason, this has happened to you.

Initially, you may have thoughts:

  • “Why me?”
  • “How can this be?”
  • “How will this affect me?”
  • “How will this affect my loved ones?”
  • “How will this affect my life?”

After eight years of this journey, I can say that I have learned a lot . . . not only about myself, but also about other people and life in general.  I have found that it is very important to maintain a positive attitude about everything.  Otherwise, you will set yourself up for disappointment and frustration.

My greatest rocks are my family, my friends, and, of course, God.  I take great comfort in knowing that with the grace of God, I will successfully travel this new journey.

I receive “Daily Truths” from The Brave Girls Club each day, and find them to be extremely inspirational.  The following is the Daily Truth for March 15, 2012, which I found to be perfect to include in this section:

Noble Girl,

When you packed up for this figurative journey you are on….you packed food and water and clothes and bandaids and a book and good walking shoes… knew you were headed on a journey….right?

Ok….sometimes we forget we are on a journey called life and we wonder why we are tired and why the road keeps stretching out so far ahead of us….why it’s taking so long…sometimes we forget that we really do have what we need in our backpacks and we panic because we wonder what will happen when we get hungry……..we wonder and worry and and worry some more…because we forgot that we are even on a journey….and we forget that we knew it was gonna be a journey and we knew we would get hungry….and we even forget that we have always had enough to eat….we have always had enough of everything we need, day after day.

So…..just look around and remember that you really do have what you need….that it really is ok if the journey is hard sometimes…that somehow you always get through it…and that as soon as you decide to enjoy the journey, enjoy the scenery, enjoy the adventures, enjoy the unknown….you will enjoy it. You just have to decide. No more worrying, no more panicking……just enjoy it. You will get there exactly when you get there and there’s so much to enjoy along the way.

You are so courageous, fun and amazing….no more worrying, ok?

You are so very loved.
